ML-powered end-to-end visual data management

Cognite: Cognite Vision

Visual data is gathered by a variety of asset-heavy industries, from power and utilities, to manufacturing and offshore energy generation. However, these industries often lack a professional solution that can organise, contextualise and analyse that data at scale, with a goal to digitalise for operation optimisation and equipment monitoring.

Cognite Vision’s goal was to create an easy-to-use tool to allow users to upload, process, and enrich their visual data using machine learning models and image recognition.

Description

Together EGGS Design and Cognite created an accessible tool for a complex and innovative field that can be used by experienced data scientists to the less technologically mature user.

In the space of under a year, the application went from concept sketches to a fully-coded, complex application; released to early adopters and used extensively within Cognite’s internal Disruptive MVP team. As a designer embedded within the internal development team Cognite, I worked as the lead designer and project lead, managing and mentoring a junior designer.

Impact

The product has been launched for early adopters and over several thousand of images and videos have been uploaded in the last few months. Users now have an application that saves them time from image collection and have a frictionless upload and storage process - going from 6 months of analysis to almost instantaneous detection.

Timeframe of involvement: 1 year 6 months
