Yoga and Life-Drawing: unlock your creativity and movement
Join us for a quiet, contemplative practice to exercise both your creativity and stretch out your muscles!
Our unique event combines creative (clothed) croquis with relaxing yin-yoga. We’ll split the participants in half and you will take turns at drawing from life and being led through a gentle and restorative yin yoga flow by Claudia Micula.
During the yoga part, you will spend half an hour moving through a variety of slow-paced, passive poses from 8, 5 and 3 minute durations, which target the deepest tissues of our bodies and help to increase mobility. This style of yoga is a meditative and introspective style, allowing you to connect with your body as the poses focus on ligaments, joins, bones, the meridians and the deep fascia networks. The class will also open and close with a short guided meditation session so all participants feel grounded and receptive.
These long, yielding poses that switch after a few minutes are perfectly balanced for those drawing, where croquis focuses on quick, rough sketches to capture forms. Those sketching will spend the half an hour observing and capturing the main shapes, lines of the body, and movement as the yoga practitioners move through each position. This tranquil drawing practice is a great experimental and freeing way to get in touch with your own creativity without judgement or pressure. Although we will not be providing a detailed drawing lesson, we will have some step-by-step guides as support and our participating artist, Kate Saunders will be on hand to support and help if needed.
We will provide sketching materials (paper, clipboards, pencils and some other materials such as charcoal and pastels). This session is a collaboration between the artist, Kate Saunders from Kit and Caboodle Prints, and Claudia Micula, an experienced yoga instructor.
After a 15 minute refreshment break the teams will switch.
Session duration: 1 hour 30 minutes
Session opens: guided mediation
30 minutes yoga with 30 minutes sketching
15 minute break with refreshments
30 minutes yoga and 30 minutes sketching
Session close: guided meditation
We will be providing a follow-up Lino-printing workshop that can be booked additionally. In that workshop, we will be using sketches, as well as printed reference material, to make yoga-themed linoleum prints. Check out the workshop in the event calendar.
