Sustainable Waste Management Journey
Port of Esbjerg: Waste management strategy and concept
Port of Esbjerg wanted to create a waste sorting system of an international standard that would function as a benchmark for other ports. In collaboration with the port authorities, the team led an innovation process of creating a new holistic waste sorting system.
Description
This project involved interview staff and stakeholders at the docks to observe their work processes. By tracing and visualising the waste journey from beginning to end, we were able to map out a clear implementation strategy, which reframed the solution into a more straightforward and cost-effective method based on insights into the underlying problem.
Impact
This holistic approach helped consolidate the port’s vision of becoming a leader in maritime sustainability and the project was nominated for the Danish Ports Sustainability Award.
