Data-driven asset management

Cognite, Statnett: Statnett Internal tools and dashboards (Team SAM: Smart Asset Management)

Statnett has the ambition to become more data-driven, both with regards to business process design as well as decision making. There are business needs in several domains within the entire organization that relies on easy access to relevant and high-quality data, as part of a solid digital foundation. One of these business areas where Statnett saw a lot of potential was Smarter Asset Management (SAM).

Description

Statnett entered into an R&D contract with Cognite and EGGS to learn new technology and advanced data contextualisaton could help them to solve their business needs. They also wanted to experience how teaming up with a technology partner and a design partner as an integrated part of their cross-functional teams would help them speed up application development.

As part of this project, I worked closely with subject matter experts and embedded in a cross-functional and agile team to develop data-heavy dashboards for asset management. These dashboards enabled better user experience and access for analysis, monitoring and maintenance in the power grid sector. They were developed for each asset type, with intensive testing and user involvement.

Impact

The implementation and use of the data dashboards saved a significant amount of time and money due to fewer breakdowns and faster analysis of asset data across 3 different asset types.
